Unsightly Leg Veins
Frequent Asked Questions - Page 1
- What are Spider Veins?
- These unsightly vessels – small red, purple, and blue blood vessels that appear most frequently on the face and legs - are commonly referred to as spider veins or telangectasias. In contrast, varicose veins are usually larger in diameter and may appear as blue raised "worm-like" vessels. These are not amenable to laser. Spider veins are primarily inherited, but lifestyle and pregnancy can also contribute to their unwelcome appearance.
- What is Laser Treatment of Spider Veins and how do lasers get rid of spider veins?
- The FDA approves laser as a non-invasive treatment. Now men and women are making unsightly spider veins a thing of the past. With a comfortable laser procedure, we will quickly "zap" those veins away! Most patients notice greater than a 50% reduction in the appearance of ugly spider veins with just one treatment. Keep in mind that our laser is FDA-Approved and is safe for most skin shades.
As the chilled handpiece glides comfortably across your skin, the laser beam pulses, heating the blood in the undesired veing and effectively sealing the vessel walls closed. Some veins may reopen requiring additional treatments.
- What is a laser spider vein treatment like?
-
The laser handpiece glides across the skin, comfortably cooling it, and with each pulse it seals the blood vessel. Compared to tedious and painful sclerotherapy injections, most areas can be treated in minutes.
- Is it painful?
- Because we chill the skin first, you probably will only feel a split-second of discomfort, which is very tolerable and similar to a small rubber band snapping on our skin.
- Do I need recovery time?
-
After a laser spider vein treatment you can go right back to work and continue your regular activities immediately afterwards, though vigorous exercise should be avoided for 3-5 days. You will notice redness and mild swelling to the area that usually resolves within a week. You’ll probably want to wear pants during this time. Facial spider veins react to a lesser extent and can be concealed immediately with make-up.
